If I only had a dollar for every time someone asks for a “fresh, natural makeup with a Kim Kardashian smokey eye” If that sounds like an oxymoron… it’s not…no really! You can wear a dramatic smokey eye look without looking like a character from one of those scary Japanese horror flicks. And might I say when it’s done just right the results are spectacular!
To keep the look fresh be sure to resist the urge to blanket your face with a layer of thick foundation, instead do a sheer layer and spot conceal where needed. Then add blush in a soft pink, peach or rose tone depending on your skin color. I used a pale pink in the photo of Cristina above.
Stick with only one to two shades on the eyes (charcoal is better than black in this case) along with a creamy beige or tan shade to help blend and tone down the deepness of the darker shade. Apply the color from lash line to crease (not above the crease) then blend into the crease to soften. Add a bit of the beige or tan shadow on the inner corners and the brow bone if desired and blend well making sure there are no harsh lines. Follow with black or charcoal liner on the top and bottom and blend. Add mascara in 2-3 thin coats to build thickness and keep the lashes from looking gloppy. Benefit Cosmetics makes a wonderful palette called Smokin’ Eye Kit with all the shades and tools you need to create this look.
Finish the look with a sheer pale or medium pink lipstick or gloss on the lips
